Choosing Your Molding & Casting Kit
Not sure which method is best for your project? Don’t worry we’ve got you covered. Our different bundles are suitable for a variety of applications.
Brush-on Silicone Mold Bundle
With the brush-on method, brush-on mold rubber is mixed and brushed onto your original model in layers. After all the layers cure a rigid support shell is then applied over the silicone. This method is best if your model is either two dimensional or three dimensional, small or large or affixed to a vertical surface (like the side of a building) or on a horizontal surface (like a ceiling).
The brush-on method uses less rubber compared to a pour-on mold, which means you can make more molds from one trial kit of rubber. However, this method takes more time and effort. Making a brush-on mold can also be more challenging and requires more pre-planning than other methods.
With our Brush-On Mold Bundle you can create a flexible mold and produce a rigid support shell. This bundle also includes mixing sticks, cups and brushes.
Pour-on Silicone Mold Bundle
With the pour-on method, mold rubber is mixed and poured over your original model. This method is best if your model is flat, two dimensional (one-piece block mold, two-piece block mold) or small, three dimensional (one-piece block cut mold).
The pour-on method is easier to make compared to brush-on molds. They’re also quicker to make and you can usually have a mold you can use the same day or early the next day. With this method you’ll tend to use more material to make the mold so you will not be able to make as many molds from a trial kit as you would using the brush-on bundle.
With our Pour-On Mold Bundle you can create a flexible two-part mold. This bundle also includes a mold release, mixing sticks, cups and brushes.
If you’re looking to mold a face, our Mold-A-Face bundle will be perfect. It allows you to create a silicone rubber mold of the face. This material is unique in that it can be safely applied directly to the skin. The rubber cures quickly and will reproduce every detail of your subject. Once cured, you will need to apply a plaster bandage support shell. This support shell is needed to keep the silicone in its shape during the casting procedure.
With our Mold-A-Face Bundle you can create a flexible silicone mold and a plaster bandage support shell. This bundle also includes release cream, mixing sticks, cups and brushes.
