Food Safe

Have you ever wondered how to make custom sweets moulds, make your own custom or personalised chocolate moulds, or even make moulds for fondant or cakes? Some of the addition-cure silicones Rowe carries will meet FDA certification for food contact. Smooth-Sil™ 940, 950, 960, some Sorta Clear™ Silicones, and the Equinox™ Series are suitable for making baking moulds and trays, ice trays, casting butter, chocolate and other applications used to produce foods.

The Smooth-On TASK™ 11 resin can be used for dry food contact applications.

FDA compliant adhesives are quite limited in terms of adhesive technology and performance features. To comply with the FDA food grade code, Permabond offers a small range of two-part FDA epoxies that can remain in compliance with the FDA formulation guidelines.

Silicone Rubber

The possibilities for casting food when using a food-safe silicone rubber are nearly endless.

Chocolate is a very popular confection to mould. High temperature candy can be poured directly into a silicone mould, as can water for ice sculptures. Pressing fondant into a silicone mould can produce very high detail cake ornamentation.

Food grade silicone has even been used to make moulds for baking breads and cakes!

Urethane Resin

TASK™ 11 urethane casting resin is a semi-rigid plastic (has some flexibility) that is strong and very tough. Originally developed for high impact tooling (drop hammer punch), TASK™ 11 also offers good abrasion and chemical resistance and is ideal for a variety of industrial applications.

This product is suitable for some FDA/USDA applications - dry food contact only.

Epoxy Adhesives

Epoxy adhesives for food and beverage production line processing equipment, kitchen goods, and packaging all use food grade adhesives. Typical applications which could require FDA approved or FDA compliant adhesives could include:

  • Bonding of filter, sieve, or strainer media for water or beverage filters.
  • Production line machinery and equipment bonding and sealing.
  • Sealing parts for dispensing equipment.
  • Kitchenware – e.g. bonding ceramics, knife handles , cake stands.
  • Packaging and labeling.
